Department Profile

In the Department of Music, UCSSH, Mohan Lal Sukhadia University, We are proud to look at almost , 50 years of effectuating the strategies of adopting our Hindustani Classical Music from the traditional Gurukul system to that of the University system. From the very beginning Music classes were running only as Hobby Classes for past many years. Then  The conception foundation was laid in the early seventies .The conversion  of  concept into reality was commenced by Dr Prem  Bhandari, Head Department of Music. With his efforts and determination Department of Music  ,in the early Eighties  full-fledged  developed and established with Bachelor Degree Course. With his initiative this Department  flourished in the year 2006 where Post Graduation in (Vocal ) Music started. We feel proud to say that till date today the Department is having more than Eighty students every year including both UG (Regular Course) and PG Course ( under CBCS Scheme)along with number of students who have been awarded Ph.D. in Music from this Department.
The Department has constantly being in the process of enhancing the skills of our students which leads to an increase in their productivity and output. Keeping this in mind the Department has always strived to innovate and introduce new courses from time to time. Starting from 2019-20 the Department has received a grant from  RUSA where special courses will be  introduced which are job oriented in keeping with the objectives of the University and benefits of the students. Short Term Courses including Specialisations  in Vocal ,Instrumental ,Dance ,Sound Engineer, Composer and Arranger, Radio Jockey and Announcer  have been introduced to fulfil  these purpose Unfortunately, Due to covid-19 the project is still under progress but very soon the students shall be benefited under these new introduced courses. The Department lay emphasis that the students upon entering in the field of career making should be specialised in the theoretical aspects of Music as well as the practical aspect too. Keeping this in mind the Department organises Workshops ,Seminars and Lecture Demonstrations and Musical Programs time to time.
Studying in the Department of Music, UCSSH,  Mohanlal  Sukhadia  University is a truly different experience for the students. This is because on one hand the students pursue their concurrent courses while  on the other hand they also learn the traditional art forms of Indian Classical Music from this University which is a mixture of an age-old Education system that is the Guru Shishya Parampara and institutionalized modern education system.The atmosphere of teaching and learning process is indeed that of an extended family.
